Making Noises

As well as building an instrument I an interested in building the other things necessary to make (semi-)musical noises: an amplifier and a speaker cabinet.

Building a Bass

For many years I have wanted to make an electric guitar; indeed I have owned Melvyn Hiscock’s excellent book on the subject for over a decade.

Video: Stage Ready(?)

Regular readers will have seen a previous video in which I play Rocksmith. That was after owning the game for around two weeks. In the intervening 16 weeks I have practiced quite a lot and switched from using my fingers to using a pick. Let’s see whether I have improved sufficiently to get the Stage… Read more »

Line 6 DT-25: Disappointing

I bought the Line 6 DT-25 112 Combo to complement my POD HD-500 and JTV-69, completing what Line 6 call the Dream Rig. The DT-25 is a valve amplifier which can be dynamically re-wired in a selection of interesting ways.

It is disappointing that (so far as I am aware) the bundled guitar is not pre-strung with… Read more »

Guitar: Line 6 JTV-69

I bought my first expensive guitar recently, the Line 6 JTV-69. JT stands for James Tyler, an American luthier of good repute, who designed the parts of it which behave as a normal electric guitar. The V stands for Variax, Line 6′s name for their guitar-modelling guitars. 69, for reasons which are not clear, means… Read more »

Video: I play Rocksmith

Towards the end of the song I briefly fade-down the game output and fade-up the original guitar tone in its place so you can get an idea of what the game’s effect- and amp-simulation does to the sound. I am playing a Line 6 JTV-69 guitar in modelling mode; it is simulating the tone of… Read more »

I’ve been playing Rocksmith on PS3 for about 10 days now. We bought the game & cable bundle; It is very, very good.
